Approach
Gender specific education has been part of the founding principles of Cedarcrest Academy since it’s inception in 1997. Cedarcrest Academy was inspired by the successful model of education and pedagogy the Legionaries of Christ re-introduced to American education about 20 years ago. This is due to the fact that gender is fundamental to the person and personalized attention is at the heart of our pedagogy. Nonetheless, this model of instruction at Cedarcrest Academy has been developing until the student population would support practical full implementation. Cedarcrest will begin gender specific classrooms in the 2008-2009 academic year for grades Kindergarten through second grade. Gender specific instruction will expand at least one grade per year until all grades benefit from this model of instruction. Gender specific instruction is not completely new to Cedarcrest Academy. Since our foundation, classes such as Physical Education at all grade levels and Fine Arts instruction in the middle grades have been taught in a gender specific setting. Special workshops or formation topics are routinely offered in setting and format uniquely tailored to the needs of girls and boys.
