At Cedarcrest Academy, the Arts are an important aspect of the curriculum. Throughout the year the students prepare for three performances including a Grandparent's Day Program, a Christmas Pageant and a Spring Musical. In order to aid the students in their preparation, a Drama Club was formed. Preparing for a performance is a very extensive process and can be an excellent learning experience for students of all ages. Drama Club at Cedarcrest Academy is open to students in the 5th -8th Grade. Once a week students remain after school to study many different aspects of the theater. Students learn audition techniques, stage directions, diction and oration skills, lighting, stage construction and design and backstage management. The students bring an impressive display of enthusiasm and dedication to the stage, and open auditions have been attended by 90% of the applicable student body. Though the students love to share their hard work and the day of the actual performance is a much anticipated event, the true value lies in the days and weeks leading up to that event, the preparation and the developing of many skills which will be useful beyond the confines of the theater.
